Keel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus), also known as the rainbow-billed toucan, lives from southern Mexico to northern Colombia and northwestern Venezuela. Its multi-colored bill is roughly one-third the length of its 51cm body.
Splendid Fairy-wren (Malurus splendens) males have cobalt-blue plumage to impress the females. They are up to 13 cm long and live in dense scrublands or acacia forests in Australia.
Fiery-throated Hummingbird (Panterpe insignis) is commonly seen at high elevations in the forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. Its 10-cm body is covered in iridescent feathers that shift from deep orange at its throat base to yellow and pale green on its belly and back, to sparkling royal blue on its chest and head feathers.
Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus) The male bird is famous for its iridescent blue plumage and elaborately spotted tail feathers, which it fans out to impress females. It is native to the Indian subcontinent, but has been introduced to many other parts of the world - including North America, Europe, South Africa and Australia.
Lilac-breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus) stands 37 cm tall. Both male and female have lilac necks and breasts, turquoise bellies, green heads, rufous faces and royal blue tail tips. They occur throughout eastern and southern Africa, from Ethiopia and Angola to northern South Africa.
Wilson's Bird-of-Paradise (Diphyllodes respublica) has scarlet-red feathers on its back, a yellow patch on its upper throat, and a bald crown that reveals electric-blue skin underneath. Wilson's birds-of-paradise also have two unique, ribbon-like tail feathers. When courting, the male fluffs out the neck feathers to reveal an iridescent green cape.
Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) is a turquoise, green, and red bird that lives in cloud forests stretching from southern Mexico to western Panama. The male has a golden-green crest and long, blue tail feathers that can reach almost 1m in length.
Spangled Cotinga (Cotinga cayana) is a tropical bird that lives in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil, and other forests and woodlands of northern South America. The male has striking pale blue plumage on its breast and belly, blue-black wings, and a bright red throat. It measures 18 to 23 cm in length.
