Rare Sighting Delights Local Fishermen

On July 16th, Mr. Trần Minh Lâm, Chairman of Hoài Hải Commune People's Committee, Hoài Nhơn Town (Bình Định), confirmed the sighting of a whale in the waters off the commune. This rare event has sparked excitement among local fishermen.

A Whale Makes a Splash

The whale appeared on the afternoon of July 15th, in the waters off Diêu Quang village, Hoài Hải Commune.

“This is very exciting news," said Mr. Lâm. "The commune has deployed personnel to be ready in case the whale appears again. If so, they will film the event and share it with everyone.”

The whale, estimated to be about 8 meters long and weighing around 1 ton, was spotted swimming alone near the shore. The whale briefly surfaced, opening its mouth to catch prey before disappearing back into the depths.

A Chance Encounter

Mr. Huỳnh Ngọc Đệ, who captured the moment the whale surfaced, described his surprise. He and a friend were out fishing in their boat, about 1km from the coast, when they witnessed the spectacular sight.

“My friend was casting his line and relaxing on the boat when I saw the whale’s mouth emerge from the water," said Mr. Đệ. "I was stunned, and my friend was equally amazed as this was his first time seeing something like this.”

Clean Waters, Clean Coastline

Local residents believe that the presence of whales in their waters is a sign of a clean and unpolluted environment.
